Introduction to "Tattoos by Design"

Image
A tattoo, by definition, is a mark or pigment punctured into the skin to form a design, but everybody tends to develop his or her interpretation of a tattoo. To many, tattoos are a form of body art. However, not everybody shares this opinion. The importance of a tattoo has changed over time. It went from a cherished form of expression to a shameful taboo, so tattooing is not something most people would find admirable. The practice of tattooing has existed for centuries, dating back to the ancient Egyptians around 4,000 years ago. Since then, tattoos have been a part of many different cultures around the world including the Nubians, Thracians, Greeks, Romans, and all the way up to Polynesian culture. As a result, all these cultures used tattooing as a form of self-expression and used to convey ideas and traditions. However, as the years progressed, tattoos became misinterpreted. Today, many people view them as a bad thing. So, in the modern era, people believe that tattoos represent c

Peer Reviews For Presentations

Image
These presentations have been an insightful experience. I was able to present my thesis and get feedback as well as improve presentation skills. I was even able to get to know the other interesting ideas of my classmates. Everyone's presentations, including my own, had their strengths and weaknesses. I enjoyed the presentations that took the time to answer questions their peers had. Some presentations were able to present their argument confidently. In general, a speaker should be able to talk openly and in a polite tone, and also they should act like they know what they're talking about. I also enjoyed the presentations that got straight to the point. Not wasting any time, these speakers presented their ideas quickly and confidently which is very admirable. Some presentations needed more work. For instance, some of the presenters lacked confidence and spoke in a low tone, making it a bit difficult to understand them. As mentioned before, a speaker should know what they&

Why I'm Choosing to Argue About Tattoos

Image
I want to argue about why do people misperceive tattoos. I want to say that tattoos are a form of art, a type of self-expression and that tattoos cannot change a person regardless of what you have heard or believe. Rick Genest (The Zombie Boy) Diagnosed with brain cancer and had almost half his brain removed, he lives a successful life as a model. The question I am asking is: What are common misperceptions about having tattoos? Many people think that having tattoos represents criminals, symbolizes prostitution, and are relatively considered a dangerous practice, which is not true. In reality, people with tattoos are professional, dedicated, passionate, hard-working, and most inspiring individuals. This topic is significant to me because I am an artist. I've always dreamed of getting inked and showing off my personality without speaking a word or having to take out my sketchbook and present it over and over. I want to become a tattoo artist myself; however, my parents and

Stand By Me Rhetoric

Rodger Ridley, Las Vegas, NV, United States He was one of the featured artists on this music video. Invention: The producers of this music video, the Playing for Change team, needed to find many different street musicians who knew the song, "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King. They had to contact some of them beforehand and fly over there to meet them. They also needed to understand the place and/or country. The team also needed to find the cost of each of his flights and also the cost of any equipment that would be very useful in capturing each artist effectively. Disposition: The team organized this music video in a very unique way. The video started with one artist and then moved on to another one and each artist it transitions to was in a different place and was singing a different part of the song. More towards the end of the music video, the video was edited to where it joined all the artists together, making the song flow as if it was one single song being sung as a

"Violent Media Is Good For Kids" Critical Responce

Image
In Gerard Jones's "Violent Media Is Good For Kids," Jones argues to why violent media is helpfull and important to kids. He gives many pieces of evidence from his and other's experiences as well as a statement from psycologist who works with young teens. He doesnt't refute it that well however but still makes strong convincing statements. From paragraph one through five, he talks about himself as a child and how violent media helped him come out of his shell. This is valid evidence as he, himself, has experienced the good that voilent media can do. Another piece of valid evidence he gives in paragraph 9 where he cites a report from Ph.D psycologist, Melanie Moore, claiming that children DO need the violent media. And in paragraph 10 he expands on what she studied and found. This makes his arguement stronger because it made it more credible, more believeable since he featured an actual psycologist who studied the subject. His next evidence comes from the expe

Probe Post

Image
Sarah Sanders: Sarah appeals a lot to ethos, some logos but very little of pathos. She displays a lot of ethos as she is already someone who works in the political field. Not only that but she talks very professionally and  she remains calms. She doesn't get caught up in some sort of an emotional uproar, so that means she doesn't display any pathos attributes. She doesn't display much logos either because she only states evidence SHE believes are facts, twisting them and putting a spin on them. Tomi Lahren: Tomi presents a strong pathos. She is clearly more emotional, upset, than Sanders. She even uses the fact that our "hard working" money was being used on the probe to get the audience to become angry like her. She is very opinionated and her argument was very informal so her ethos was weak. Mark Mazzetti: Mark however shows little to no pathos. He talks in a way where you wont be able to determine what his political stance is. He displays logos by b

The Analysis of "College Is A Waste of Time"

Image
Thesis: In paragraph 1, in the last sentence, he states, "I believe higher education is broken." This is the thesis because it is debatable. Many people and vouch that higher education such as college or any school after high school is NOT broken and helps tremendously. Many people can also vouch that it IS broken and completely useless. Evidence: In paragraph 4, their first piece of evidence is a study that showed 36 percent of college students showed no improvement to critical thinking, complex reasoning and writing after the four years of college. A study the author pulled from the book, Academically Adrift. In paragraph 6, their next piece of evidence was how he talked about how "we" are the "free agent economy" which he pulled from A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel Pink. Refute: In paragraph 9, they talk about how some people do want a formal education but urges to consider an opportunity cost. Claiming becom
